Before this I worked in fast food. Then I went to school so that I could get a better job that pays more. It has been a blessing for my family because I can finally pay my bills. It is like a whole new life.

The folding bike will live on

Cycling enthusiasts are mourning the loss of one of their own earlier this year.  Harry Montague passed away February 2, 2011 at the age of 77 in his home town of Brookline, Massachusetts after losing a long battle against lymphoma.

Montague is recognizable for founding Montague Bikes with his only son David in 1987.  Montague was an entrepreneur for the industry and creating the first ever folding bicycle.  The idea came to him after he grew tired of lugging his full bike onto a rack and he wanted to make riding some of his favorite trails like the Potomac River Trail, more manageable.  Not a small man, at 220 pounds and 6 feet 2 inches tall, he found many small folding bicycles to not offer the quality ride he was seeking.

His original folding bike design, placing the rear triangle inside the front, received a patent back in 1984 but no companies were interested in mass producing it for him.  Not one to easily throw in the towel, he eventually found a company in Washington, D.C. to produce his design, then another in Michigan and slowly more offers trickled in.  He developed additional small wheel folding bikes, bikes with folding cranks and frames that folded multiple times, but it was the folding mountain bike that really blew the market wide open for him.  Just this past January he released his final design equipped with a quick release adjustable stem.

Montague is survived by his wife, two children and grandchildren.  Truly a visionary and a game changer, he will be missed.

I decided that I was going to go down to Home Depot on Thursday morning and look at some of the fencing that they were selling these days. The back fence in my backyard was breaking down and I needed to put in a new fence. While driving down there I drove by a car lot that had a few of those Wheel chair Vans. The vans looked like they were brand new. This got me to thinking about vans in general.

I need to check out the local Fiat Dealers as I know absolutely nothing about them. I’ve only lived here for two months and I’ve been putting this off, but my car is going to need to be serviced soon.
